In Russian, "I" is pronounced "E", but "E" is, well "E". However, in Russian and in Ukrainian you pronounce every single letter, and students are use to doing this with English words. You don't pronounce "E" straight, it has of a more "EI" sound to it. When they see how their teacher writes it, they see "beech". If you say it like this, let's hope you hope you have a good excuse the next time you really want to go to the beach )
