What we can mean by Down time

Usually down time in the I.T sphere means when a service will not be running for a period of time. Up time would mean how long that service is running for. However, this is not always used in the I.T sphere as we can use it with people too.


Downtime for instance can mean when a person will not be available for work. Or a Football player injured his knee. He will have some down-time.

Another instance of when Prime Minister had this to say about an MP from Canada.

MP Ed Fast recently had a stroke and took some time off for needed recovery. Today, Justin Trudeau ridiculed this stroke victim, dismissing his recovery and and attacking him for not studying Liberal talking points during his 'down time'.

We could use time off here too, but down time is more emphasized. Possibly to make a point.
