Get your Feet Wet

We use this expression in North America If you're from Eastern Europe like Ukraine, that means you too Poland, you wouldn't know this term unless you lived in the country!

To get your feet wet means to get experience. The first stages of experience to climb up the ladder. Think of a Producer, to get your feet wet, you would probably be an Associate Producer in television or film. You have to start somewhere right?

Let's look at a sentence.

"Nowadays to get your feet wet, you gotta be taking low-end jobs, a lot of companies won't hire anyone because they don't have any experience. So you gotta get your feet to start somewhere"

"Bill wanted to get his feet wet in the plumbing field by asking his Uncle who is a plumber as well for a job. His Uncle owns his own business, so it wouldn't so hard to hire him"
