I have a bone to pick with you

Usually I hear older people from North America use this phrase a lot. It doesn't actually mean you have a bone to pick with them, but you have a problem with them.

So why the word "Bone". Maybe people back then liked bones, like dogs like to play fetch with bones?

I am not to sure but here I can give you an example
Andy: I have a bone to pick with you young man
Bill: What did I do?
Andy: You left the gate wide opened and someone stole our fish
Bill: Are you sure it wasn't the raccoons? They love to fish
Andy: Perhaps it was, but next time leave the gate closed. Someone can drown in our pool.

So Yeah, when you have a problem, be sure you have that nice clean bone to pick someone with!
